Founded by Scottish immigrants from Virginia in 1799, Glasgow is a community of more than 15,000 people located in the rolling hills and farmland of South Central Kentucky Because of its Scottish roots, the city hosts an annual Highland Games, a gathering of Scottish clans for traditional athletic competitions.  The Games draw international attendance.  With its close proximity to three of the nation’s best resort lakes (Dale Hollow Lake, Lake Cumberland, and Barren River Lake), Glasgow is also one of the state’s premier vacation destinations.  The city is only twenty minutes from Mammoth Cave National Park which offers hiking, camping, canoeing, caving, fishing, and horseback riding.

The area has many types of equestrian activities, including professional facilities for Tennessee Walking Horses, Dressage, Hunter/Jumper, Quarter Horses, and American Saddlebreds.  Horse Cave Theatre, provides the area with nationally recognized excellence in theatrical production.

Only 90 miles south of Louisville and 90 miles north of Nashville, Glasgow is centrally located for a variety of recreational activities.  Nearby Bowling Green, a city of 50,000 people, is only 30 minutes west and offers a variety of restaurants, theaters, shopping and after-hours attractions including jazz, blues, dancing and the National Corvette Museum.
The city of Glasgow is a progressive community that offers many of the amenities of larger cities (such as shopping, fine dining and recreation), but with the warmth and friendliness of a smaller town.  Other community benefits include moderate real estate prices, a low crime rate, and a reasonable cost of living.  Because Glasgow has a diversified industrial base  located in three modern industrial parks, the city can offer a revolving loan fund which provides low interest loans to attract new industries and assist existing industries with their expansion plans.  The industrial incentives combined with resort revenues keep Glasgow a prosperous community.
For residents with school-age children, Glasgow provides excellent educational opportunities for all grade levels, including a branch of Western Kentucky University. The National Forum to Accelerate Middle Grades Reform recognized Barren County Middle School as one of three national "Schools to Watch."Glasgow’s commitment to technology shows with the availability of high-speed Internet access to all of its residents.  In fact, the city has been named twice in the Wall Street Journal for its innovative high-speed Internet access available through the local cable system.  Glasgow residents are linked through a high-speed broadband network via cable modem.  The service is operated by the Glasgow Electric Plant Board, the local utility that also provides Glasgow’s electric power and  cable TV.  Recently, ZD Net, the Website of ZDTV, selected Glasgow as “the most wired small town in Kentucky.”
